Moving Out

Big things have changed.  Through melting snow, pouring rain, frightful wind, and cloudy days, we packed and wrapped things up…literally.  And now it's all over!  From big house to little cabin in the woods...

The “moving out” is done.  There was only a misty rain that sporadically appeared over the weekend, so that made getting things into trucks, cars, and trailers a lot easier.  We had wonderful help, too.  Friends came with their 14’ trailer on Saturday and Sunday to pick up the stuff, and Dan's aunt and uncle awaited our arrival up island to house our worldly goods in their basement/garage during our “month of transition.” It’s amazing – no storage fees this month!  We are so thankful to everyone. Comparing the two realities - moving with their help and moving without it, there is a big difference.  Wow.

It was a pretty significant move, as the house was Daniel’s family home for 19 years, with various groupings of the family moving in and out over time.  That meant layers of stuff to sort through and move out.  It was a team effort, with exhausting hours of sorting, hauling, stuffing cars, and cleaning, but a successful one in the end.

We’ve settled into our cozy little cabin, our home for the month.  We're surrounded by boxes, but that's okay.  They'll move in a month.  It’s been enjoyable already, with just a small space to hunker down in, and the ability to run across the driveway to have meals with Daniel’s parents and sit together of an evening with hot beverages and a movie.  Good times ahead.

Yesterday, amidst the celebration of a move, Daniel and I celebrated something extremely special.  It was the day a new little heart began beating…the heart of our new little baby.  What a miracle it was to find out our new life this year would not only include a new home, but the beginnings of a new family to grow there.  We are so thrilled, and thank God for every day we get to enjoy with this little one.  Whether it is 60 days or 60 years, we know this baby, like Salem, is in His hands, and we will enjoy the journey, where ever it goes.

Thus, I’ve been on “materinity leave” over the move.  Though tired, I feel good, with an enthusiasm and peace about it that surprises and encourages us both.  We sat on the empty floor of the house, eating a delicious little chocolate delicacy from the bakery that Daniel had picked up to celebrate “Heartbeat Day.”  It was a day of moving our thoughts forward to new beginnings...in more ways than one!

It has been a big January, with many decisions, many joyful surprises.  Now the month has come to an end, and the decisions and plans it held. February will be the month of anticipation…and new adventures.
